Webinar – Introduction to Abaqus/Simpack/CST/XFLOW

24 Sep, 2020 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

This webinar introduces the 4 Dassault Systèmes SIMULIA solutions: the nonlinear Finite Element Analysis solver Abaqus, the high-performance 3D Electromagnetic analysis software package CST, the general Multibody system simulation Simpack and the particle-based Lattice-Boltzmann CFD solver XFLOW.

Abaqus

Abaqus is the software suite for linear and nonlinear Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The Abaqus Unified FEA product suite offers powerful and complete solutions for both routine and sophisticated engineering problems covering a vast spectrum of industrial applications. In the automotive industry, for instance, engineering work groups are able to consider full vehicle loads, dynamic vibration, impact/crash, nonlinear static, thermal coupling and acoustic/structural coupling using a common model data structure and integrated solver technology.

Abaqus provides comprehensive contact modeling capabilities, including the ability to model interactions between deformable bodies, rigid bodies, and self-contact. Abaqus automatically detects contact between different bodies, dramatically reducing missed contact definitions and time required to define contact in complex assemblies.

The Abaqus product suite provides an extensive library of material models that can be used to simulate the realistic behavior of biological tissue and traditional engineering materials, such as metals and rubber.

The implicit solution technology in Abaqus is ideal for solving static and low-speed dynamic events. In addition to providing basic and advanced linear analysis capabilities, Abaqus also supports the general application of linear analysis techniques in cases where the linear response can depend on prior nonlinear load history. The explicit solution technology employed by Abaqus is well-suited for high-speed dynamic events.

CST Studio Suite

CST Studio Suite is a high-performance 3D EM analysis software package for designing, analyzing and optimizing electromagnetic (EM) components and systems.

Electromagnetic field solvers for applications across the EM spectrum are contained within a single user interface in CST Studio Suite. The solvers can be coupled to perform hybrid simulations, giving engineers the flexibility to analyze whole systems made up of multiple components in an efficient and straightforward way.

Common subjects of EM analysis include the performance and efficiency of antennas and filters, electromagnetic compatibility and interference (EMC/EMI), exposure of the human body to EM fields, electro-mechanical effects in motors and generators, and thermal effects in high-power devices.

CST Studio Suite is used in leading technology and engineering companies around the world. It offers considerable product to market advantages, facilitating shorter development cycles and reduced costs. Simulation enables the use of virtual prototyping. Device performance can be optimized, potential compliance issues identified and mitigated early in the design process, the number of physical prototypes required can be reduced, and the risk of test failures and recalls minimized.

Simpack

Simpack is a general multibody system simulation (MBS) software enabling analysts and engineers to simulate the non-linear motion of any mechanical or mechatronic system. It enables engineers to generate and solve virtual 3D models in order to predict and visualize motion, coupling forces and stresses.
Simpack is used primarily within the automotive, engine, HIL/SIL/MIL, power transmission, railway, and wind energy industrial sectors, but can be applied to any branch of mechanical engineering.
Simpack simulation software is particularly well-suited to high frequency transient analyses, even into the acoustic range. Simpack was primarily developed to handle complex non-linear models with flexible bodies and harsh shock contact.

From initial concept designs, through to production and redesigns, Simpack is used to help engineers fully comprehend and optimize systems, vastly reduce the need for physical prototyping, reduce time-to-market and improve product quality and lifespan. In essence Simpack enables manufacturers to gain a competitive edge by offering the ability create high quality products in a time and materially efficient manner thus reducing overall costs in design, production and maintenance.

Diversity and good connectivity to various multi-physics software (e.g. control, hydraulics and FEA) enable Simpack to be easily integrated into any manufacturer’s already-established development processes.

XFLOW

In the modern competitive world of product innovation, industries demand the complex simulation of their product’s real-world behavior under extreme conditions; such as vehicles wading, powertrain lubrication and critical flight maneuvers.

XFlow offers particle-based Lattice-Boltzmann technology for high fidelity Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) applications.

The state-of-the-art technology of XFlow enables users to address complex CFD workflows involving high frequency transient simulations with real moving geometries, complex multiphase flows, free surface flows and fluid-structure interactions.

Its automatic lattice generation and adaptive refinement capabilities minimize user inputs thereby reducing time and effort in the meshing and pre-processing phase. This enables engineers to focus the majority of their efforts on design iteration and optimization.

With XFlow’s discretization approach, surface complexity is also not a limiting factor. The underlying lattice can be controlled with a small set of parameters; the lattice is tolerant to the quality of the input geometry and adapts to the presence of moving parts.

Advanced rendering capabilities provide realistic visualization to gain deeper insight into flow and thermal performance. XFlow’s unique capabilities enable companies to reduce physical testing while making to make better design decisions faster.
